Why Exfoliating Is for More than Just Your Face

One important part of a men’s skincare routine is exfoliation. But what is it, why is it important, and is this only a face care thing?

 

What Is Exfoliation?

According to the American Academy of Dermatology (ADA), “exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the outer layer of your skin.” As skin cells mature and die, they collect on the outer layer of your skin. When they build up, it can cause skin irritation and dull your natural, healthy appearance.

Scrubbing Your Scalp

If you have thinning hair, you don’t want to go too wild while shampooing. Gently rub the shampoo through your hair without tugging or yanking. 

But your scalp needs specific attention - especially if you often have flakes or thinning hair. When you use shampoo or conditioner, make sure you get a good scalp massage in. Scratch (gently) at your scalp to scrub away accumulated dead skin cells.

What’s the benefit? You will stimulate blood flow to the scalp and prevent hair follicles from getting clogged by all those dead cells. The result is fuller, thicker hair and less flakes.
